2021 Travel Forecast & Recommendations | Travel Well Update

This week’s Travel Well focuses on COVID-19 related updates from Italy and Mexico. Allan also provides a 2021 travel forecast of what to expect in the coming months.

News From Italy
It is not possible for US citizens to travel to Italy for vacation. Those on more “essential” travel purposes (including students, business people, and those visiting relatives) can travel from the US to Italy but need to quarantine. Recently, it was announced Delta and Alitalia will be offering COVID-19 tests on direct flights from the US to Rome in hopes this will allow people to forgo the quarantine. However, from what we can tell, this has not been approved by the government as a way to eliminate the quarantine nor will it be available for tourists in the near term.

After months of doing a weekly video update on how to travel safely during the pandemic, last week we tried a new written format. The reaction was split between those of you in favor of text and those of you who prefer the video. We have decided to do both videos and written formats, switching as the news dictates. This week there is a lot to share so we’ll stick with the written format.

We have known for months COVID-19 spreads primarily through close, prolonged contact with an infected person. But what does that mean for specific situations? This analysis of three superspreader instances – in an office, a bus, and a restaurant – is still one of the best descriptions I have seen, even though it was published in June.
