YANNICK DE COCQUÉAU

Yannick Belgian Beer GuideYannick de Cocquéau lives in Geraardsbergen but was raised in Ghent, Belgium, and still considers the city his hometown. He embraces what he calls the “Burgundian lifestyle”—making the most of life through exceptional food, great company, and outstanding beverages.

Although many know him for his deep expertise in beer, Yannick’s journey actually began with wine. He is a certified wine sommelier and remains actively involved behind the scenes with one of the world’s largest international wine competitions, giving him a broad perspective on the world of fermentation and craftsmanship.

Yannick later became a certified beer sommelier, brewed his own beers, leads tasting experiences for groups, is active in numerous beer associations, helped organize the renowned Zythos Beer Festival, and continues to organize international beer competitions. His passion for Belgian brewing culture runs deep—he knows virtually every Belgian brewer personally and loves sharing the stories, history, and traditions behind their breweries and beers.

Whether introducing guests to a world-class Trappist ale or discussing the nuances of a fine Burgundy, Yannick brings infectious enthusiasm, extensive knowledge, and a warm sense of humor to every experience. He loves showcasing the best of Belgium and believes there is always a great story behind every glass. As he likes to say, he’s a true “pluralist” when it comes to fermented beverages.

“Yannick was very attentive to all our needs and shared his time with all – always with a smile. He was so full of knowledge about both the culture, the areas we were visiting, and history of beer. Very impressed!”

“Yannick brought so much to the table with beer knowledge, local knowledge, and extraordinary energy and patience.”
