The Most Compelling Reason You Need to Take a Vacation

We all need a break from everyday life at one point or another for our mental and even physical health – but that doesn’t convince some people to actually take a vacation. So for those people, what may be the most compelling reason to take a vacation? The money you’re losing by not taking all of your vacation days!

Americans are notorious for not taking all of the vacation days they are allotted. It’s an unfortunate part of our job culture. According to a new survey of over 2,200 workers conducted by Glassdoor, the online job search company, the average U.S. employee who receives paid vacation has only taken about half (54%) of those days in the past 12 months.

According to the Project: Time Off’s State of American Vacation report, Americans have cost themselves up to $62 billion by forfeiting 212 million vacation days that could not be banked, rolled over or paid out. Just think of how many beers, glasses of wine, or margaritas that could have bought!

Research also shows that those who travel tend to be happier in not only their personal lives but their professional lives too.

To top that off, the Project: Time Off’s State of American Vacation report also suggests that those who travel more are more successful in their job and more likely to be promoted – which when you take a step back to think about it, really makes sense. Because you took some time for yourself, wherever you decided to go, even if it was to stay at home, you could then come back recharged and perhaps even with a new perspective, to take on whatever your job throws at you.

So stop worrying about the American workplace stigma of taking a vacation because, let’s face it, you taking a vacation is helpful to everyone!

Now that that’s settled, where are you heading to next?
